Lost

I really want to write today. I am at a low level of words though. It seems nothing has struck me to put on the paper today. I was glad to see the celebration for the new president went off with out a hitch yesterday. It is amazing how people see things completely different. I followed along with all the communication devices of today as the process went along. It was amazing to see all the views of the new beginning. I find myself getting angry at what I feel is stupidity. I constantly read people's remarks about how much they fear the new president. Either the world is going to end in 6 months, the USA is going into a downward spiral, or we will have a communist country now. It is not the fact that they believe all this that bothers me. It is simply that none of them realize all this has already happened under the Bush administration. Furthermore, some of them even have the notion to applaud Bush in his efforts.

I have learned to channel this anger. Natasha has informed me that I tend to come of angry and airogant when I talk politics. Since I have not come over these thoughts, I choose not to discuss them with people. Yet, I do want to make this one point. No wait, never mind, it will just make some look stupid. I can't be hurting ignorant people's feelings.

To move on, I will change this to a happier post. I think we might be going to Park City for a few days in a couple weeks. This means I need to go work out hard to get into ski shape. I can't wait! I wish I was going to Belize to scuba dive instead, but it isn't always my decision. This is a lot of words to not have a lot to say.

I am beginning to get more involved in Pikeville. I have befriend the local bar owner here. Go figured right. Anywho, I think we share of a lot of great ideas for this town. This place has a lot of potential for developing into a nice small town. It just needs more activities. (Lots of room for activities) If I am going to be stuck here for three years, I might as well make a stab at change. I have a lot to do today, so fair well my friend.

  1. i agree with your frustrations regarding others' reactions to the new president. i have never before heard a man speak and inspire so many, while others miss the message. and if people can't see that our country is already in the shitter (thank you, president bush), there's not much of a way to explain it to them. they are still living with the perspectives put forth during a presidential campaign that got very nasty toward obama. i only hope those preconceptions can fade.

i, for one, am excited. i think obama has hit the ground running with a type of optimistic energy we will need through hard times. i hope he can do much to pull us out of this slump with as much grace as he has taken it on.

  2. I love the blog, David. Very nice.
I read through the past couple of posts and I'm going to have to read that book, Geography of Bliss.
Thanks for posting the article and letter to the editor.
Also, I'm glad you saw the pics from inauguration!! It was amazing. The whole weekend was absolutely incredible.

  3. I often find that getting involved in something bigger than myself helps me to have a different perspective on my world. If you don't do it, who will? You can create all kinds of things. (And befriending bar tenders can be very rewarding; my husband of 27 years was an ex-bartender. LOL)

  4. You know, I was walking to class still thinking about this post. I think the power elite have always depended on making people fearful in order to maintain control--especially of those whose socio-economic class might make them less able or willing to discern the truth for themselves. So, they make people afraid of others, of change, of difference by making it seem something of which to be afraid.

  5. I want to change that practice. The fear is able to be created because we don't understand were we are before the change. What position and or class this person actually stands in. I think if we educate individuals on what policies actually/realistically have a chance of making a difference in their lives and the lives the most people, this could take a shot at the fear.

Side not, Mia (who lives in DC) has some great pictures of the events from a personal view. Send her message, she would most likly email them over.

  7. It is amazing how the comments differ here in Belize. Everyone here is so excited about Obama being the president. The rest of the world can see how the Bush administration has messed up our country and other countries around the world. They are so hopeful here and so happy that he is our president. We stopped everything to watch and it was so cool to hear everyone talk about it - made me proud in a way that I have not been in a long time.
